Avioz Hanan
Independent humanitarian operator, based in Tel Aviv. I take on projects in crisis settings on behalf of donors: sourcing the need, verifying it, executing on the ground, and reporting back with full reconciliation.
Background
I grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, and moved to Israel after college. I served in the IDF in a special forces unit and later as a commander, and I remain in active reserve duty, with over 400 days of reserve service since October 2023.
Alongside that I spent four years in real estate investment equity raising, managing investor relationships with high-net-worth individuals across multimillion-dollar capital raises. The accountability model I bring to this work, direct access, transparent reporting and full reconciliation, comes from that experience.
Where it started
In 2022 I traveled to Moldova at the outbreak of the war in Ukraine with a humanitarian organization. Within days I launched an independent effort alongside it after seeing gaps in the field: I raised roughly $35,000 from my own network, first for supplies at the border transit point where families were crossing on foot, then for medical supplies for hospitals and communities inside Ukraine once the larger organizations had the border covered.
Finding what is not being covered and covering it is the shape of the work. I now do it full time, as an independent operator rather than inside an organization.
What this is
I am an operator paid for judgment. I am not a fundraiser, an NGO, a philanthropic advisor or a money manager, and I am not building an institution. The work is small, fast and specific: a reserve unit with worn-out gear this week, a community center in Kharkiv losing power this winter, a set of villages an earthquake response has not reached.
That makes it complementary to the organizations that do the large-scale work, not a replacement for them. Their mandates and mine do not overlap.
Work I do not take on
Regulated or controlled goods, and anything that needs a permit I cannot guarantee. Projects whose success depends on government permission or political alignment. Political advocacy. Long-term program management. Rebuilding with clear government or NGO ownership. Executing a pre-built shopping list where no judgment is asked for.
